A pair of Lakeland University wrestlers placed in the top-5 of their respective weight classes at the Dr. Bob Kellogg Open hosted by MacMurray College.
Katelynn Gunderson (130 pounds) finished fourth while Madison Ruckdashel (123) took fifth at Saturday’s event in Jacksonville, Illinois.
Gunderson led the way for the Muskies. She posted a 3-2 record on the day.
After being bounced from the championship side of the bracket in the quarterfinals, Gunderson bounced back with a pair of wins to reach the third-place bout.
There, she fell to Shainia Murray (McKendree University) by technical fall 10-0.
Madison Ruckdashel, who placed third at the Adrian Open a week ago, earned a fifth-place finish. Like Gunderson, Ruckdashel fell in the quarterfinals. She won her first consolation match by technical fall, before being pinned in the consolation semis.
Ruckdashel topped Bailey Theel (York College) by technical fall 10-0 in the fifth-place match to round out the day.
Lakeland is back in action Saturday at the Waldorf University Open in Forest City, Iowa.
