Brooke Thurber took top honors at 106 pounds to lead the UW-Stevens Point women’s wrestling team at the North Central Women’s Open Saturday in Naperville, Illinois.
Thurber was a perfect 4-0 on the day en route to her title.
She opened the day with a pin in just 47 seconds.
That performance was followed by back-to-back decisions over Natalie Reyna (McKendree University) and Aliyah Rollins (Missouri Baptist). That led Thurber to the title bout.
There, she pinned Angelina Gomez (Lion Wrestling Club) in 4:58.
Alice Todryk was the only other place-winner for the Pointers. She took sixth at 123 pounds and posted a 1-2 record.
The Pointers placed eighth at the 16-team event.
Lakeland University was also in attendance. The Muskies were led by Katelynn Gunderson who placed fourth at 123 pounds.
Gunderson topped the aforementioned Todryk by technical fall in the quarterfinals, winning 11-0.
She then fell by tech fall in the semis to Emily Se (Emmanuel College) by a count of 10-0.
Gunderson dropped the third-place match to Jasmine Ward (Lindenwood University) by a count of 18-10.
Maddie Ruckdashel also placed for the Muskies. She finished fifth at 123 with a record of 2-1.
Ruckdashel topped Todryk by technical fall, 10-0, in the fifth-place bout.
The Muskies finished 12th in the team standings.
Both Lakeland and UWSP are back in action Saturday at the Muskie Duals hosted by Lakeland.
