Wisconsin redshirt senior Seth Gross was named Co-Big Ten Wrestler of the Week on Friday.
Gross was Midlands champion at 133 pounds, topping then-No. 1 Austin DeSanto of Iowa to claim the title.
He was also named the Dan Gable Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament by the media in attendance for the second time in his career and for the first time as a Badger.
This is the first Big Ten Wrestler of the Week honor for Gross, who transferred from South Dakota State.
He shares the honor with Iowa’s Alex Marinelli who won a Midlands championship at 165 pounds .
Gross is the second Badger this year to earn the weekly award. Redshirt sophomore heavyweight Trent Hillger won it back on Nov. 26.
Badgers slip in FloRankingsĀ
The post-Midlands national wrestling rankings were released by FloWrestling earlier this week. The results were a mixed bag for the Badgers who fell from No. 4 to No. 9 in the team rankings.
Gross regained the No. 1 ranking at 133 pounds courtesy of his thrilling 6-5 victory over DeSanto in the Midlands finals.
He is up a spot to No. 6 in Flo’s pound-for-pound rankings.
Johnny Sebastian re-entered the rankings at 184 pounds. He is now No. 14 after falling out the rankings a few weeks ago. This is his highest ranking of the year.
Cole Martin held steady at No. 14 at 149 pounds.
Evan Wick dropped to No. 6 at 165 following his loss to Virginia Tech’s David McFadden in the Midlands semifinals.
Wick was previously ranked third at his weight. He holds steady at No. 12 in the pound-for-pound rankings.
Trent Hillger also held steady at No. 5 in the heavyweight rankings.
Tristan Moran slipped to No. 9 at at 141 pounds. He was eighth last week.
