Ethan Rotondo won an individual title at 125 pounds to lead a contingent of seven Wisconsin reserve wrestlers at the Loras College Open Saturday in Dubuque, Iowa.
The junior was a perfect 4-0 on the day with three victories by major decision.
In the championship match, Rotondo bested Kyle Biscoglia (Northern Iowa) 5-2.
Redshirt sophomore Devin Bahr was runner-up at 157 pounds. He compiled a 4-1 record with his lone loss coming to Keaton Geerts of Northern Iowa in the championship tilt.
Bahr dropped that contest by a 2-1 decision.
Freshman Josh Otto placed third at 165 pounds. His lone loss of the event came to Northern Iowa’s Lance Runyon in the semifinals.
Otto topped Baylor Crigger (Loras College) 9-4 in the third-place match.
Freshman Nick Termini (149) and redshirt junior Patrick Spray (157) each finished fifth at their respective weight classes.
Termini was bounced from the winner’s bracket by Tristan Lara (Northern Iowa) in the quarterfinals, losing by fall in 6:56.
He went on to top teammate Daniel Stilling 5-3 in the fifth-place bout.
Spray was pinned in the first period of his opening match against Geerts, the eventual champion.
He pinned Luke Condy (Central College) just 1:57 into their fifth-place match.
The aforementioned Stilling was 3-2 on the day en route to his sixth-place finish. Two of his three wins were bonus-point victories.
Sophomore Andrew Salemme placed sixth at 285 pounds.
After falling in his first bout of the day, Salemme went on to win his next three matches before falling in the fifth-place match to Sam Zook (Central College) 5-4.
