Like all of you, I’ve spent a lot of time feeling the effects of COVID-19 from a couple different angles.
Long story short, I work for one of the largest restaurant equipment suppliers in North America. On a more personal note, my family owns their own restaurant and have worked in the foodservice industry most of their lives.
To be honest, I have spent most of the last week feeling kind of helpless as I see our customers and my family scramble to put together survival plans for their businesses.
But recently I decided to reframe my thinking. I began asking myself: what can I do to make an impact? How can I help?
Well I have an idea. And I am asking all of you to considering helping me.
This is really simple:
- ORDER: If you are able, purchase take-out or delivery from a local restaurant.
- PIC: Grab that cell phone, snap a picture of your food.
- POST: Post that picture to your social media platform of choice. Don’t forget to tag the business’ page. If they don’t have one, no sweat. Give them a shout out anyway.

If your financial situation doesn’t allow you to order out, no worries, you can still help. Go to the social media account for the restaurant of your choice, find a picture or a post that appeals to you and share it with your followers.
What does this do? Well, a couple of things:
First and foremost, it keeps these businesses top of mind. It helps raise awareness of all the wonderful food that our family, friends and neighbors work so tirelessly to create. This also showcases the sheer number of amazing foodservice operations in our communities.
Secondly, this helps these business owners feel the love and support of those around them. At times like this, spreading love is important.
It is also my hope these posts will also serve as a reminder that many local foodservice operations are still open, albeit under different conditions.
